Step-by-Step Instructions for Entering the National Magazine Awards

All National Magazine Awards entries must be submitted online. You will follow the same steps whether you are entering Magazine of the Year (category 1) or print categories (categories 2 to 14), print-online categories (categories 15 to 21), or Digital Media Awards categories (categories D1 to D11). To see a list of category descriptions, click here.

Step 1: Log on to www.magazine.org/nma, using your pre-assigned user name and password. If you do not know or remember your log-in and password, do not attempt to create a new account. Instead, e-mail ellies@magazine.org or call Nina Fortuna at (212) 872-3737.

Step 2: Familiarize yourself with the required entry information in each category and the payment process. To see entry form worksheets. click the appropriate links below. The following forms are for your use only. Do not send them with your submission. If you will be submitting an app, please read the instructions for doing so here.

Step 3: Submit your entry. When you are ready to enter, log on to www.magazine.org/nma and click "Online Entry".

Choosing a Category

• You can click on a category name to view its description. To enter a category, click "Add to Your Order." If you plan on entering a category twice, you will be able to change the quantity to "2" on the next screen by clicking "Update Qty".
• To add more categories to your order, click "Keep Shopping".
  
• You do not have to purchase all categories in one sitting. You may return at a later date to purchase other categories.

Payment

• When you have chosen your categories, click "Continue to Check-Out".
  
• Complete the payment form that now appears on your screen by entering your credit card information. You may also choose to send a check by clicking "Pay by check/Bill me later". Please note that entries must be paid in full by February 1, 2012; otherwise, entries will be deemed ineligible.
  

Entering a Category

• To begin entry, click the link at the bottom of your "Purchase Detail" page. There is also a link at the bottom of your confirmation e-mail, should you choose to return at a later date.
  
• Now click "Edit" next to a category to enter the required information. You may log in at any time before the deadline to edit and continue with your entry.
• Your entry is not complete until you check "Is this entry complete?" on the last screen of the individual entry forms.

After Completion

• If you need to change any information on the payment or entry forms after you have marked your entry "Complete," please e-mail ellies@magazine.org or call Nina Fortuna at (212) 872-3737. Entries may not be withdrawn after they have been submitted.

Step 4: Mailing your materials. For categories 1 to 21 you may be required to mail or deliver magazines and CDs or DVDs. Labeling of the CDs or DVDs should clearly indicate which magazine they correspond with and what categories are included on the CD or DVD.  More than one category may be featured on the disc. Low resolution is acceptable, except in Design or Photo categories.

Attach a photocopy of your confirmation e-mail (the e-mail you receive immediately after purchasing a category) to the cover of EACH copy of the issue or issues required in the category. You can attach by using paper clips or rubber bands. Circle or highlight the appropriate category name on the confirmation e-mail so that is clear which category the magazines are for. Bundle together the copies of the issue or issues required in the category and mail or deliver them, along with the CDs or DVDs, to the following address:

NOTE; If you are delivering your entries, please bring them to the 810 Seventh Avenue messenger center located on the north side of 52nd Street between Seventh Ave. and Broadway. Deliveries are accepted between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. only. If you are using a messenger service, they will not be allowed in the building unless they have a proof of insurance.
